So, my friend and ridiculously talented ukulele playing reggae opera singer Nakisha Esnard A.K.A Enne, commissioned me to design the cover for her EP, “Songbird”. The song that shares the title of the EP is a love song, in which Enne is daydreaming about being one of a pair of magpies who are in love…so I got the idea for a thought bubble showing two magpies kissing; “What if I told you I loved you with my birdsong, birdsong? Would you singalong singalong? Would you fly away with me? Would you fly right next to me?”
I tend to have an ever-so-slightly literal take on things! So, inevitably that literality did manifest itself in Nakisha’s figure, consisting of two love-hearts; one comprising her legs, hips and rump and the other making up her upper body. Look out for the other love-hearts featured upon her skirt, as the pupils of her eyes and magpies’ lips. I chose to feature another magpie in the picture as Enne’s earring. Then to add a lateral take, I made the rest of her body and face birdlike, especially the hands.
With my love and passion for my art and Nakisha’s love and passion for her music, it was meant to be that we would come together for a soulful love filled collaboration of my art and her music with the Songbird EP.
